Joey the Weasel, aka Joe Strange Eye, called me. “Have you heard about Jimmy’s? Someone ran into it!” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. The neighborhood has been a little jumpy lately and as we approached helicopters were circling and an NBC mobile news van had their antenna launched about 5 stories high. Slow news day?
Inside Sausage Paul and staff were sweeping up bottles of Zonin Pinot Grigio. It seems the display of the 1.5 bottles provided a buffer for an elderly lady whose car sped, rather, leapt into the store. Luckily nobody was hurt.
“Usually, Joe would be sitting at this table here putting in his orders,” Paul told me. “He must have been running behind.” Very fortunate for Joe and anyone else who could have been sitting there.
Not to worry, Jimmy’s will remain open. We had another killer (SOLD OUT) event this week on Day Tripping to Tuscan wineries from Florence. Look for the next on March 12, Day tripping to wine country from Rome.
Last night the Argiolas family was in town for a (SOLD OUT) Sardinian wine event. Not to worry, Sausage Paul is selling a ton of wine and he’s not going to cry over a few broken bottles of Pinot Grigio. “It was a good thing we had that display there,” Paul said, “it provided a buffer of protection for the cashiers.” Not only that, when the counter was moved back six inches they discovered a cache of small change which never made it into the till.Bonus time for the lucky cashiers?
Whodothunkit? Pinot Grigio, not as the Wine of the Week, but as the Hero of the Day, Bravo Zonin, Pinot Grigio and Italy. The folks at Jimmy’s thank you.
